Today’s Shave

24 Oct

It’s not often I get to take a picture and post it of my shave, but it was a nice lazy day today (relatively) and thought I’d share.  Especially since the shave contained some new goodies that had been picked up as of late.

Just noticed the pumpkin has some lather on it too.  Oh well, it probably needed a shave too! =)

What we have here:  Merkur Progress with Gillette Rubie blade (used at setting 5), butterscotch Fuller finest badger restoration brush, Mitchell’s Wool Fat shaving soap, a few drops of Drakkar type fragrance oil, Shave Secret pre-shave oil, a Bluebeard’s Revenge lather bowl, and the Proraso Pre/Post cream.

A word about the fragrance oil: I had bought it a couple of years ago to make some aftershave.  The vendor I bought it from assured me it was 100% skin safe (even thought it doesn’t say that on the bottle, nor does it say “cosmetic grade”) and unknowing at the time I didn’t ask to do a patch test.  Needless to say the aftershave burned like heck, and unfortunately after a while so did today’s shave.  If you are going to use any type of fragrance oil or even essential oil, please don’t do what I did.  Make sure you try a patch test to see if your skin is sensitive to the oil.  It makes things a lot more pleasant in the long run.

You would have thought, but it really seemed to work woell for that blade. I NEVER have it set any higher than 4, but I just got the inkling to see what it would do, and whaddya know, it worked well!

How do you like the MWF, Aaron? I had a sample that came with a shave mug that I bought off of B&B. I liked it and want to get a puck of my own soon.

I like it a lot! It’s very protective and slick, is very forgiving on water amounts, and provides copious amounts of great lather. And because it is triple milled and so hard it lasts for an extremely long time. I highly encourage you to pick up a puck, it will definitely be worth it.
